Frequently asked questions
Getting started
- How does Estateur work?
- You start with a short quiz about your situation. Based on your answers, we recommend a plan (will-based or trust-based). You then go through a conversational, guided intake interview, and we produce your complete, state-tailored estate planning documents.
- Do I need an attorney?
- Estateur is a self-help document preparation service. Our documents are attorney-crafted and tailored to your state's law. For complex situations (contested families, special needs trusts, large business interests), we recommend consulting an estate attorney.
- Which states are supported?
- All 50 states and the District of Columbia. Every set of documents is tailored to the specific execution formalities, witness requirements, and legal standards of your state.
Documents & signing
- Are the documents legally valid?
- Yes. Our documents follow your state's statutory requirements for wills, trusts, and powers of attorney. To be legally effective, they must be signed and witnessed (and sometimes notarized) per your state's rules. We include state-specific signing instructions with every plan.
- How do I sign my documents?
- We provide a signing guide tailored to your documents and state. Most wills require two adult witnesses and notarization is recommended. Living trusts require notarization. Powers of attorney requirements vary by state. We walk you through every step.
- Can I update my documents later?
- Yes. An optional annual membership keeps your plan current as laws change and your situation evolves. You can also return to update individual documents as needed.
Account & billing
- What does a plan cost?
- Will-based plans and trust-based plans are priced on our pricing page. There are no hidden fees. Payments are processed securely through Stripe.
- Do you offer refunds?
- No refunds are issued once documents have been generated and made available for download. If a technical error prevents document delivery, contact us within 7 days and we'll make it right. Annual Estateur Care membership cancellations may be refunded within 14 days of the renewal charge if no documents were generated under that term.
- How do I access my documents?
- After completing the intake and purchasing, your documents are available to download as PDFs from your dashboard. You can also store signed copies in the Document Vault.
Security & privacy
- Is my information secure?
- All data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 and in transit using TLS. We do not sell your personal information. Your estate planning information is shared only with you and the people you explicitly grant access.
- Who can see my documents?
- Only you can access your documents. You can optionally share individual documents (e.g., to your executor or attorney) using the Document Vault sharing feature.
Estateur is a self-help document preparation service, not a law firm, and does not provide legal advice. For legal questions, consult a licensed estate attorney in your state.
